Do you experience slowdowns, lockups, and or frequent shutdowns? Your PC or Laptop could be experiencing heat stroke… Time to take the side off that computer and blow some dust out of that bad boy! Lifehacker has a great article which explains how to protect your computer from overheating.

From The article How to Prevent Your Computer from Overheating (and Why It’s Important)

“Why an Overheated Computer Is Dangerous

Simply put, if your computer becomes too hot, it is possible to destroy and shorten the lifespan of the hardware inside your computer, leading to irreparable damage and potential data loss. Besides losing your data, heat pecks away at your computer’s internal organs—the motherboard, CPU, and more—significantly shortening its lifespan.”

The good people over at lifehacker, which is an amazing site for technology information, wrote up a great guide on each of the different types of infections.

From The article (What’s the Difference Between Viruses, Trojans, Worms, and Other Malware?)

“The point of today’s lesson, of course, is to help you teach your friends and family more about the different types of malware, and debunk a few of the common myths about viruses. Who knows, maybe you’ll learn a thing or two as well.”

in the words of another Alfred: “What, Me Worry?” When it comes to your online security and privacy, you should worry.

Phishing…you probably read that word and scoffed “Not me, I’d never fall for the Nigerian Prince scam or the old phony link trick.” Well, you’re in good company. Cory Doctorow, author and co-founder of the fantastic webzine BoingBoing, also held that stance…until recently. All it took to expose his 40,000 Twitter followers to an attack of their own was a reboot of his phone and a direct message from a “friend”. The article is a great read and highlights the need to stay vigilant in your digital life.

From the article (Locus Online):

“Here’s the thing: I thought that phishers set their sights on a certain kind of naive person, someone who hadn’t heard all the warnings, hadn’t learned to be wary of their attacks. I thought that the reason that phishers sent out millions of IMs and e-mails and other messages was to find those naifs and ensnare them.

But I’m not one of those naifs. I’d never been tricked, even for a second, by one of those phishing messages.”

At it’s basic root, social media is a conversation taking place between like-minded people about every topic imaginable; 24 hours a day, 7 days a week…”the world’s biggest cocktail party”

When used correctly, social media can be a valuable, low-cost/high-impact addition to your marketing plans. The Fort Worth Business Press has great article about the power of social media for business.

From the article:

“From a business standpoint, social media allows you and your company to be involved in these conversations online. Imagine your best sales person at the world’s biggest cocktail party. A good social media team can be just that; they know how to find all the right people in the room, to listen and to sell or simply share information. Sometimes all you need to do is listen and respond when necessary.”

If you follow any of the technology blogs, you probably have heard about the recent issue with Geek Squad charging for “PC Quick Tune-up” or “Optimization” service. The “tune-up” is really nothing more than some updates being applied and some bloat-ware being deleted…all for the low price of $39.99. The catch was that Best Buy and Geek Squad claimed that the service would somehow increase the speed of your computer. Well, the good folks at Comsumerist decided to ante up and see what this “service” is really all about. Read the article below:
