Job Searching using Facebook

Here is a cool app that we came across from the good people over at TechRepublic. The app is called intheDoor. Basically what happens is you fill out a quick form with Three positions that you have held and or are looking to achieve, then allow the app through your Facebook account and it scours your friend list for their employers. You will then get a list of those employers on One screen and job postings that are available at those companies. It is a pretty slick app and we at CTXworld recommend you all checking it out…

Smart Phone Privacy Alert

We received an email about a possible Privacy concern with smart phones. It seems as though most smart phones have GPS capabilities. What most people don’t know is that GPS tracking is enabled by default on your apps as well which includes photos etc… Check out this video from NBC. Basically your phone adds GPS data to your photos taken with your smartphone which with a few clicks could give a lot of detail to where you and your family travel. This is pretty concerning to us here at CTXworld…. Also check out this site on how to disable this feature on most of the popular smart phones. So I received a phone call from a buddy yesterday and he tells me “Yo, my friend Jack’s hard drive crashed and he had a ton of his kids pictures on there…” So I say, “Soooo he did a backup of his photos right?” And then there was Silence… We hear this all too often here at CTXWorld and we feel bad for these people. I decided to take a quick look around and see what the best option was for backing up your irreplaceable digital photo collection. Basically it is very simple and very cheap. As you may already know I am a Google lover… They offer so many different services free or at a minimal cost. They have a great storage plan for anyone’s needs.

1 GB – Free

20 GB – $5.00 per year

80 GB – $20.00 per year

200 GB – $50.00 per year

400 GB – $100.00 per year

1 TB – $256.00 per year

Basically you have to sign up for a free google account which will give you access to all of their services. You will want to go to their Picasa Web Album page and sign in with your Google account information. Within that page you can start to create web albums and upload all of your photos to those albums. For an even easier experience you can download the free Picasa application which is absolutely awesome. You can keep your photos organizaed on your pc, sync automatically to Google, tag people and share with your Facebook friends and family. Google also provides a good easy to follow guide, but if you have any questions or need help setting this up, feel free to contact CTXWorld and we will get you all setup in no time!

I would have to say that I don’t completely agree with every app on this list but ZDNet did a pretty good job with their top 25 apps for the Android. #1 Google Voice, #2 Advanced Task Killer, #3 Dropbox, #4 Evernote #5 DroidAnalytics Check out the complete list here

iPhone

I am not an iPhone user but they are great phones!! The folks over at PCMAG.com did a nice job of giving the top 40 free iPhone Apps for 2010. #1 Apple iBooks 1.1, #2 AT&T myWireless, #3 Bing, #4 CNBC Real-Time, #5 #5 Cube Runner. There are better apps I promise, check out the full list here

Blackberry is still currently the leader for business phones and Aol recently had an article listing the top free and paid apps.
